Natural Ingredients: My Collection of Essential Oils

Today I wanted to share with you my essential oil collection so far. I don't have many, but I think some of them are essential to have if you want to create or enhance a natural beauty product.

My collection of essential oils

1. Lavender essential oil has a sweet and floral with a woody undertone scent.

Beauty benefits: lavender oil is one of the essential oils you can apply directly to your skin or hair without blending with a carrier oil. Lavender oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which can fight the bacteria causing acne infections, thus reducing the swelling and redness.

We all know about calming properties of lavender essential oil, it can relieve tension, stress and inflammation, all of which are responsible for causing skin ageing. Lavender essential oil also boosts the circulatory system, thus increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells. This results in lowering the signs of ageing such as wrinkles and fine lines. Same properties of Lavender oil help to promote a healthy hair growth.

2. Tea Tree essential oil has a warm, fresh and spicy scent.

Beauty benefits: tea tree oil has become a popular ingredient in all kinds of shampoos, face soaps and ointments because of its healing powers. Tea tree essential oil has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties which are good to heal acne, dandruff, wart and athlete's foot. I like to use it in my face masks and when I make body creams to prolong their shelf life.

3. Lemon eucalyptus essential oil has a sweet and lemony scent.

Beauty benefits: lemon eucalyptus oil is a strong anti-fungal and antiseptic, occasionally used to treat athlete's foot. The oil is used in personal hygiene products, such as soaps, for its antimicrobial properties.
I like to add it to my beauty products. Note, that you need to be careful with amount you use, If you put to much it can burn your skin, so add little by little if you are not sure.

4. Rosemary essential oil has a clear, powerful refreshing smell.

Beauty benefits: rosemary essential oil in a cream or lotion is most beneficial for improving blood circulation and de congesting the skin. Used in many anti-ageing beauty products. When rosemary essential oil is added to a shampoo it not only increases the circulation to the scalp and improving hair growth, but also acts as a general conditioner and tonic for the hair and scalp.

This is my second favourite oil. I am not that keep on the scent on its own, but when is blended it is divine for me.

5. Ylang Ylang essential oil has a sweet and floral aroma is very calming and relaxing.

Beauty benefits: ylang ylang essential oil has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-depressant properties. This essential oil has a balancing and stimulating effect on skin. It is a great oil because it can help with overly dry or overly oily skin - it balances the secretion of sebum. It also has a stimulating effect on the scalp, and is often used to help hair growth.

6. Rose blended essential oil has a sweet and floral scent.

Beauty benefits: rose oil is often used in skin products, as well as hair products due to it's ability to deliver intense moisture and hydration that is easily absorbed. Rose oil is great for soothing an irritated or sensitive scalp due to its anti-inflammatory benefits that reduce redness and can relieve a dry and tender scalp.

Rose oil is also full of antioxidants, like Geraniol, that can help eliminate any impurities and protect the skin, scalp and hair from oxidative stress - making it also a great anti-ageing ingredient.

7. Vanilla blended essential oil has a sweet and rich scent.

Beauty benefits: the health benefits of vanilla essential oil can be attributed to its properties as an antioxidant, aphrodisiac, antidepressant, sedative and relaxing substance.

Vanilla is rich in antioxidants which prevent and reverse skin damage caused by free radicals. Vanilla essential oil is great ingredient to use if you want to slow down signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Vanilla is a good source of vitamin B, like niacin and thiamin, vitamin B6 and pantothenic acid which play an important role in the maintenance of healthy skin. The list of benefits of vanilla essential oil is incomplete without mentioning its role in hair care. It is a good source of many nutrients which help in the maintenance of hair health. Vanilla when mixed with a carrier oil can make your hair silky, shiny and smooth.

I love blending my essential oils to get all the benefits from their properties and to create a lovely scent. Keep checking my DIY beauty for the inspiration.

What is your must have essential oil and what it does to make you love it so?
